Nasdaq Futures Fall 1.2% as Treasury Yields Hit Highest Level Since 2007

US stock index futures fell Thursday, with technology leading the losses. Nasdaq-100 futures dropped 1.20%, to 30,397 points; S&P 500 futures fell 0.69%, to 7,718.75 points; and Dow futures lost 0.44%, to 51,646 points.
The pressure comes from interest rates. The 10-year Treasury yield hit 5.140%, the highest since July 2007. The two-year hit 4.897%, its highest since 2023, and the 30-year reached 5.438%, the highest since 2004. Strong activity data and higher fuel and transportation costs reignited inflation fears.
As a result, the odds of another Fed rate hike in October jumped from about 49% to more than 75% in one week. The central bank has already raised the rate to the 3.75%-4% range, the first hike since 2023. Higher rates reduce the present value of future earnings, which weighs more heavily on high-valuation technology companies.
The sour mood spread: China's CSI 300 fell 1.73%, Australia's ASX 200 dropped 0.66%, and Europe's Stoxx 600 opened lower. Japan's Nikkei was the exception, rising 1.66%.
